Taos and Sacred creativity are intertwined. A thread that is woven in the tapestry that makes the artistic life what it is. It's living in an unknown territory not sure of the final chapter but enjoying the journey. Mr. Nichols is acutely aware of the delicate hues created by light, Richard strives to render, in his words "a visual poem" with each stroke. Whether brushed in oil, a textured charcoal to a splashing stroke of watercolor he tries capture not of the knowing but of the feeling. Allowing that unknown creative spirit to be the guide of his works from the Plein Aire light that the Sangre De Cristo's enchant with.

You go out and Plein Aire... you feverishly create for about 2-3 hours.. your fighting the wind, sun, snow, then a neighbor releases his hounds on you and that's the first hour..lol!...yeah you feel o.k. about it, but it isn't what your artistic voice was speaking to you in the beginning.
You photographed the scene and it's a nice study that you have created but you want more..you want a painting that says a "PAINTING" not just a "Study"
We will paint on a different location every morning and then the afternoons we will complete the "Plein Aire" gem to become a painting at the Amarillo Art Insitute classroom.

The delicate hues created by light, canyon walls of rich magenta, the burnt sienna and viridian tones will be brought forth and then rendered on your canvas creating "a visual poem" with each stroke. Whether brushed in oil, a textured charcoal to a splashing stroke of watercolor artists will capture not of the knowing but of the feeling. Allowing that unknown creative spirit to be the guide of their works from the Plein Aire.
